William Goldman's screenplay for this classic movie starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford won the Academy Award for Best Screenplay in 1969. The film, directed by George Roy Hill, cost $6m and made a box office of $102. The final end shot is often cited as the most memorable freeze frame in cinema history.

Based loosely on fact, the film tells the story of Wild West outlaws Robert LeRoy Parker, known as Butch Cassidy (Paul Newman), and his partner Harry Longbaugh, the Sundance Kid (Robert Redford), who are on the run from an elite posse hired by Union Pacific Railroad owner Mr. E H Harriman after a string of train robberies. The pair, together with Sundance's lover, Etta Place (Katharine Ross), flee south to Bolivia in search of a more successful career, but their life of crime finally catches up with them.
